Jay-Z recently discussed his Grammy no-shows, peers, and friend Lebron James with Michael Kay during a taping of the Yes Network’s “CenterStage” program. Jay told Kay that he skipped the Grammy’s in 1999 and 2002 because the rap awards presentations were not televised.

“It’s like people invite you over to their house for dinner and then tell you, you have to eat in the basement,” said Jay. He did add that the Grammy committee is doing a better at acknowledging the genre. He won Best Rap/Sung Collaboration this year for “Numb Encore,” featuring rap/rock act Linkin Park.

Jay-Z, recently knighted as “Sir Hova of Brooklyn” by Grammy night stage partner Paul McCartney, also played word association with Kay. He called Diddy a “trendsetter,” Snoop Dogg a “West Coast King,” and girlfriend Beyonce “one of the best singers of our generation.”

As for Lebron coming to the soon-to-be Brooklyn Nets, Jay said he does not want to use their friendship for an unfair business advantage. He also mentioned that he would love to see a modern day ‘Goodfellas’ film and that he has probably lost four or five albums worth of material due to his habit of memorizing rhymes instead of writing them down.

Jay-Z’s hour long CenterStage interview airs April 2 at 9PM. “GMC Truck Presents CenterStage” is a monthly program focusing on popular figures in sports and entertainment. Yes is a New York/New Jersey sports network.

    L Boogie 4:37 am on March 19, 2006 Permalink | Reply

yea I heard all the shit from back in the day that cam used to drop…but about 95% percent of his music was bullshit unless he was doin a cameo on somebody elses shit.I mean he was iight but then he became completely trash. Real dudes know the keys he claims to have pushed must have belonged to a lock. I must admit he did know people that were gangsta like Rock,Dave Herb(112st).But he was just always a good ball player. Were the fuck did Juelz come from? I even tried to dig his shit but every time i heard his shit it sounded worst & worst. Oh well niggas..you still have JR Writer….
