Grammy Award winning producer Dallas Austin has received a pardon for possession of cocaine for personal use by a Dubai court Monday (July 3).
Austin, 33, was convicted for having 1.26 grams of cocaine in his possession at the city’s airport in May
The producer was sentenced to four years in a Dubai prison, where he has been incarcerated since May 19. Just hours after the conviction, Austin received a pardon directly from Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum — Emir of Dubai and vice-president of the UAE — followed by a deportation order.
The producer flew to Dubai to attend a three-day birthday party at the Burj Al Arab hotel for supermodel Naomi Campbell.
In court, Austin said he had accidentally brought the drug into the country and had “forgotten” to dispose of it beforehand.
Austin has produced hit records for Aretha Franklin, Brandy, Boyz II Men, Madonna, Monica, TLC and Lenny Kravitz, among others.
